Lasith Malinga Appointed Bowling Coach Of Rajasthan Royal In IPL 2022

Ahead of the TATA IPL 2022 season starting March, Rajasthan Royals have announced two new appointments while revamping their coaching staff. Rajasthan Royals have roped in Sri Lankan veteran bowler Lasith Malinga as their new fast bowling coach along with Paddy Upton. Promoted to Team Catalyst.

Captain Malinga, the 38-year-old who won the T20 World Cup, led his country to the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup title, will be working alongside the Royals' excellent fast bowlers during the upcoming season. Malinga, widely regarded as one of the best-limited overs bowlers of all time across the world, will oversee the creation of new bowling plans for young bowlers during IPL 2022 with his knowledge and expertise of T20 cricket.

During his career spanning over 17 years, the right-arm pacer represented Sri Lanka in 340 matches across three formats, taking 546 wickets. Malinga played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, for which he took 170 wickets in 122 matches. He most recently served as Sri Lanka's bowling strategy coach for their T20I series against Australia in February 2022.


Speaking on his appointment, Malinga said:

“It’s a wonderful feeling for me to return to the IPL and an absolute honor to join Rajasthan Royals. A franchise that has always promoted and developed young talent. I am excited by the pace bowling unit we have going into the tournament. And looking forward to supporting all the fast bowlers with the execution of their game plans and their overall development. I’ve made some very special memories in the IPL with Mumbai Indians and now with Royals, looking forward to new experiences and creating great memories in this journey.”
